This course explores the theme of creativity applied to architecture and design, delving into the many, varied aspects of the topic. Architectural firms Archi-Tectonics share the experience they have garnered from many decades designing
large buildings. Closely examining flagship past designs and future projects, the course offers valuable examples and the useful analysis tools that the firms have evolved during their successful professional pathway. We reveal the design and creative
workflow behind the construction of many architecture and design projects. The firms offers insights and comments on their in-house creative process, from tangible experience at the highest levels of architecture, providing a forum for discussion and
a significant study opportunity for all architects keen to learn more about these two practices’ international-level creative process from close up.
About the Architect
Winka Dubbeldam - Archi-Tectonics
Winka Dubbeldam is the founding partner of Archi-Tectonics (1994). She is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Architecture at PennDesign, Philadelphia. With a firm belief in the strength of teamwork, she deftly chose the name
“Archi-Tectonics” for the practice, which is proud of its diverse team of engineers, consultants and contractors who understand its founding concepts, and have played their part in creating buildings to date that facilitate what they believe construction
should be all about: personal, high-quality, and affordable. Justin Korhammer joined Archi-Tectonics as a partner in 2016. Archi-Tectonics has offices in New York City, the Netherlands and China. Archi-Tectonics is a research-based design practice
that works on multiple scales, from objects to buildings to cities. Archi-Tectonics strives to achieve design efficiencies expressed through optimized modulations that result in original shapes, buildings and spaces. Archi-Tectonics is an expert in LEED
design. The practice’s architects believe in creating original, innovative and sustainable designs through optimized, energy-efficient, and sustainable solutions. They do not have a recognizable house “style” as such, but seek to develop a specific identity
for each and every project. They achieve this through comprehensive, project-based research, resulting in a bespoke experience for their clients and optimal spatial formation for every design.
