The course explores design, looking at the topic on every scale. Through an exclusive tour of Park Associati’s office, the course will present an innovative, hi-tech approach. Park Associati, an architecture studio set up in 2000 in Milan by Filippo Pagliani
and Michele Rossi, bases its approach on three principles: listening, intuition, and experimentation. These elements characterize the design culture of the studio, which currently comprises a team of professionals specialized in architecture and interior
design. The video brings together the experiences and knowledge that have allowed the studio to grow and operate internationally. By closely examining the studio’s main completed and future projects, the course will provide examples and analytical
tools that have grown out of the studio’s activities. This course will be an opportunity for discussion and learning for all architects who want to closely study an up-to-date and avant-garde design approach that successfully dialogues with the built
environment while reinventing it with modern, hi-tech structures.
The videos are intended to provide new practical tools for promoting greater awareness of the architectural design process through:
The professional experiences of international architects
Discussion of international projects that have required planning on multiple scales
Strategies and solutions for international projects that take into consideration both the urban context and the internal details of the building
Knowledge of the materials and technologies used in the various case studies
Knowledge of the principles of retrofitting and hard retrofitting for greater design awareness in the interests of creating dialogue with the existing built environment
User login identification using a user ID and password, sent to participants after registration
Monitoring the total connection time of each user and the percentage of the videos viewed using the SCORM system
Completion of final assessment questionnaire, with question sets of a suitable level to evaluate learning and listening comprehension of the topics covered, with a minimum passing grade of 70%
About the Architects
Founded in 2000 by Filippo Pagliani e Michele Rossi, Park Associati works in architectural and urban planning, and interior and product design.
In their early years, Park Associati refined, developed and adopted their own and external ideas, through a culture of dialog that, even now, defines the studio’s open design methodology. The studio evolved and expanded over the years in terms of both proactive resources and expertise. Today the Studio employs a team of 60 at a former telephone factory in Milan.
Behind the studio’s work is the pursuit of a format that summarizes their vision. Park Associati’s analytical, pragmatic and measured design approach, while retaining a strong sense of tradition, is able at the same time to reference new concepts due to a process that blends listening, intuition and experimentation.
Park Associati develops specific, uncompromising projects, without sacrificing composition or aesthetic style.
An important part of their design work is linked to the world of corporate headquarters, designed to encompass the brand’s home, identity and values, as demonstrated by Salewa’s headquarters in Bolzano, and Luxottica and Nestlé in Milan.
Park Associati is passionate about hybrid solutions, in particular in the residential sector. Development of various student residences in Milan, including the first phase of the former Falk site in MilanoSesto, are typical of this.
Attention to detail and innovation in materials and structures differentiate the pop-up restaurants The Cube and Priceless, in addition to retail projects, including Tenoha multi-purpose space in Milan, Hermès boutiques in Italy and Seoul, and Brioni worldwide.
Urban regeneration and retrofitting historic and modern buildings are other key themes. In Milan, projects include restyling La Serenissima and Gioiaotto, conservation measures in Piazza Cordusio and via Brisa, and complete redesign of the Engie and Il Sole 24 Ore headquarters.
The studio is developing various master plans in Italy including transforming the Bovisa district with the MoLeCoLa project, winner of the international C40 Reinventing Cities invitation to tender, an area adjacent to Milan Expo 2015 and Waterfront redevelopment in Catania.
Innovation and experimentation, has always underpinned Park Associati’s mind-set, resulting in the applied research unit Park Plus, their in-house department to support design tasked with researching technology, materials and methods.
The hotbed of ideas which is Park Lab constantly produces models and prototypes, and experiments with materials and shapes to provide an ongoing resource to the project teams.
Research and sharing is also integral to the Studio’s materials library, which is organized on a systematic and technological basis, and accessible to all.
Reflecting their wish for inspiration, since 2017 Park Associati has opened up the studio to the city and other professionals or artists. In tune with the typically effervescent city of Milan, the Park Hub cultural program was launched in an eclectic space that hosts exhibitions, meetings and lectures. We like to think that architecture is fueled by this inspiration too.
The buzz that permeates all Park Associati designs drives the studio’s flexibility and ability to meet the challenges of each new project.
