Course Description
The course takes its cue from the three fundamental concepts that guide Berlin-based architecture studio Barkow Leibinger: teaching, research, and practice. The founders and most prominent professionals from the studio, established by Frank Barkow and Regine Leibinger in 1993, outline their innovative architectural vision.
The course will provide examples and analytical tools drawn from a close examination of the firm’s main completed and future projects. The creative processes that allow digital production and serial prototyping to be integrated into projects, and how this leads to the creation of new spatial types, is examined. Over the years, the practice’s approach to each new design challenge has allowed it to produce projects, in Germany and abroad, whose quality has been endorsed by numerous publications and awards.
This course is an important opportunity for discussion and study for all architects who want to closely analyze the design dynamics underlying the most important works of contemporary architecture.
