Course Description
The course explores design on every scale. Hawkins\Brown is an international architecture firm with offices in London, Manchester, Edinburgh, Los Angeles, and Dublin. It was established thirty years ago by partners Russell Brown and Roger Hawkins. This exclusive journey through the studio will give a firsthand insight into how architectural design requires meticulous attention at every level, from the urban scale to interior furnishings.
The video reveals the collaborative spirit that drives the practice, the result of extensive technological and multidisciplinary knowledge that encompasses every aspect of a project, including the social, technical, physical, environmental, political, financial, geographical, and psychological aspects. The video brings together the experience and knowledge that have allowed the practice to grow to international proportions.
The course will provide examples and analytical tools drawn from a close examination of the firm’s main completed and future projects. This is an important chance for all architects to discuss and study in-depth a design process founded on throughgoing analyses of the social, spatial, and economic contexts to create projects that contribute to a more inclusive, equitable society.
