Course Description
The course deals with the design and construction of high-performance buildings that both satisfy client expectations and create vibrant, innovative urban spaces. Allford Hall Monaghan Morris (AHMM) is an international architecture firm founded in 1989 by Simon Allford, Jonathan Hall, Paul Monaghan, and Peter Morris, all of whom met at the Bartlett School of Architecture. From day-one, the practice’s design approach has been highly successful, seeing it grow from the four founders to a firm with over 500 employees and three offices (London, Bristol, and Oklahoma City), which works on projects all over the UK, Europe, India, and the Americas. Since 2017, the majority of the company has been employee owned. The hallmarks of AHMM’s projects are economy, elegance, and delight. The studio’s chief aim is to create buildings that last through time and whose success is not only defined by the use for which they were commissioned, but also their ability to adapt to new circumstances. They are buildings intended to integrate into cities and contribute to their growth, becoming, through their uniqueness, part of the daily backdrop to the life of every individual. The creative processes that led, and will lead, to the construction of very advanced buildings will be examined, both from the perspective of architectural design and compositional innovation. This course is an important opportunity for discussion and study for all architects who want to closely analyze the design dynamics at work at every scale.
